How many people in your group and which instrument do you play?
Hi Lea! We are seven, the lucky seven. It´s Lars on organ and piano, Antonio on drums, Björn on bass, Boris on guitar and the Horns Kai and DonDee on Tbone and trumpet. And of course me. I´m the vocalist.
Can you please give me a brief history of DrWoggle?
Five years we startet to play music together. It was like a must. We all knew each other, the riddim-crew also had a sort of reggae band. One day we said: The Woggle-Crew has to be born. And there we are. We had our first shows very early. I think after three months. And we had also in this year our first tour in Italy. We were in Rome, Genova and a little town near Milano. That was great! After these shows in ´99 we just had one more show in Italy. That was last year in Bologna at the Moonstomp-Festival.
During the years we had almost 200 shows in Germany, France, La Suisse, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, the Czeck Republic etc. Always on the road! We love it tour, to play, to meet people. That´s great.
Our first album, the "debut", was released on Elmo Records in 2001. You need to listen to it.
The last three months we were in the studio and produced our second album. "Bigger is tough" is a very good record, with the typical Woggle-Sound.
Does your name, DrWoggle, mean that the people listening to your music have a positive benefits as a... smile therapy???
If it´s like that, we would be happy! The name is open for any interpretation. Listen to our music and you will see what will happen!
But you can be sure: It will be a therapy.
What about your new work? Did you have any special guest in your songs or in anycase there is anything particular you would like to tell to our readers about your last Cd?
As I said, “Bigger is tough” is a typical woggle-album. This means, that we some different styles on the record but we always play our sound and that makes it typical for us. It´s rich of jamaican sounds, swinging horns and of course the three voices. It´s bigger! And this ist tough!
And we have interesting guests: Jesse from The Busters made the percussion, Olli from The Senior Allstars played the TenorSax and Dr. Ring-Ding himself joined us for one song.
Which are the really good ingredients to make a deliciuos ska song in your opinion?
I could say that there need to be a grooving bassline, swinging drums, the organ and guitar off-beat, nice horns and (souly) vocals. But actually you need a good band and good vibes. Riddim rules!
Can you describe your songs using the 5 senses?
It´s like the smell of good herbs, the songs are like a firework you see, you feel the riddim and the bass deep inside of you, for your ears it´s like a festival and it tastes always good...
Which is your best concert you had in your history?
I think each one of Dr. Woggle and the Radio got his own “best concert”. I personally don´t have a special concert. Each concert has it´s own “magic”. Sometimes there are little things, which make a concert very special. I think one of our best concerts, was a concert in France/Rennes last year in april. That was the Dance Ska La-Festival. It was great. We played after Rude Rich and the crowd was fantastic.
But also the concert we played ´99 in Rome in the Villaggio Globale will always be in our minds.
If you could choose a music group in the past which one do you wish to be?
Dr.Woggle and the Radio!!! There can be just one band!
The ska is alive or survived?
Ska is alive AND survived. I think Ska is one of the music-styles which will survive for ever!
What does Dr.Woggle eat before any concert?
We have our own cook with us on tour and he has usually a different menue… But we always need MEAT!
Does in Germany exist any Tv or Radio programm which plays ska music?
There´s no TV station. But some Radio programms play ska music. But not “major” radio stations play it usually. Just sometimes, when they have a special programm.
Do you have any special relationship with a place in general as city, or coffe shop or whatever?
We have a special relationship to our Music-Club in Weinheim. The Café Central. There a three times a week concerts. Laurel Aitken was here, The Slackers a few times, NYSJE, also a lot of Punkrock, Hardcore, Hip Hop. All kinds of music and famous bands. I work there also. We had one of our first concerts there, the release-party will be there.
We hang around there, listen to music, we meet people. It´s like being on the road. Maybe that´s why we love it to be there.
Did you never think to translate into a ska song a poetry?
That would be a great idea! I was never thinking about that. Thank you!
Do you want to thank or to say fuck... to anyone? The last, please, not to me...
I won´t say thanks to our fans, cause they know, that we love dem….I say thanks to them, who will come to our next concert in their town. Come and join us!
